Brown faces revolt over agency workers

Attempts by Gordon Brown to quell a potential backbench revolt over improved employment rights for 1.4m agency and temporary workers are likely to fail, union leaders warned on Thursday.

The prime minister has offered to establish an independent commission to determine what measures might be introduced to bring pay and conditions of agency workers more into line with permanent staff without undermining Britain’s flexible labour market.
