Middle classes forced to go bargain hunting

Middle-class Britons are rushing to embrace "cheap chic" as they search for imaginative ways to live well in a downturn, according to Financial Times research.

Data obtained from the internet trawls of UK consumers show a sharp jump in the number of searches for money-off vouchers, discount grocers and cheap holidays, as consumers ape their lower-paid cousins in an attempt to eke out the family finances.
