Resort invites bidders to run casinos

Blackpool's quest to reinvent itself as an English version of Las Vegas started in earnest yesterday with the launch of an international tender for a resort casino development.

The town wants to use the looming shake-up in gaming laws to begin a regeneration programme by encouraging casino operators to invest. Until recently they had been looking to build in larger cities. However, a last minute change to legislation by the government has increased Blackpool's chances of benefiting.
