Next week Scotland will again be at the centre of British politics as Gordon Brown’s government sees if it can hold off the challenge of the Scottish National party in the traditionally safe Labour parliamentary seat of Glenrothes.
The SNP scored a sensational by-election victory in July, taking the formerly rock-solid Labour seat of Glasgow East with a 22 per cent swing to the nationalists.
