Egypt announces nuclear energy plans

Hosni Mubarak, the Egyptian president, on Monday said Egypt would build several civilian nuclear plants, reaffirming the North African state’s atomic ambitions.

Egypt is one of a number of Middle East countries, including Algeria, Libya, Jordan and the six states of the Gulf Co-operation Council, that have said they would be interested in constructing civilian nuclear plants and developing nuclear technology.
