Smaller companies shunned by banks

Britain’s banks are shunning lending to smaller companies in favour of building business with the largest companies as they seek out clients that are most resilient and likely to bring them other types of business, a survey of top corporate treasurers will say today.

The findings offer the first detailed view of how treasurers – responsible for a company’s external funding – are coping with a radically altered funding landscape amid the credit crunch.
