Building blocks to guide the banks’ new boards

Sir, Following Paul Myners’ call for more non-executive directors with strong commercial experience (report, October 15) and Christopher Hogg’s letter (October 16) reminding us of the conditions of the 2006 Combined Code of corporate governance for listed companies, one could conclude that with a bit of luck all will be OK for the banks' new boards. In practice we are faced with two seemingly irresolvable issues.
