Simon Kelner has just returned from having a chat with Darren from advertising. The managing director of The Independent does not look a happy man.

“Darren was depressed because he’s had three or four conversations today with [media buyers] who all said that this stuff with Lehman Brothers and AIG is terrible,” Mr Kelner says.
