Yahoo rises on overture to Microsoft

Yahoo's shares bucked the trend of a falling stock market yesterday as comments by the embattled internet company's chief executive added to the belief that it could return to negotiations with Microsoft.

Speaking late on Wednesday in San Francisco, only hours after his company's search alliance with Google had collapsed, Jerry Yang appeared to offer a direct overture to Microsoft to resume the talks that collapsed in May.
