A two-year journey to replace the Kyoto protocol is likely to begin on Saturday as governments looked set to agree a roadmap for future international co-operation on climate change.

Though talks were due to continue past 8am on Saturday, United Nations officials said there was a “clear determination” to reach agreement after two weeks of sometimes fraught wrangling.
