Buyer gloom despite fall in prices

Falling house prices will do little to improve the affordability of homes for too many people, according to a report published on Thursday by the National Housing and Planning Advice Unit, a government advisory body.

Even a 15 per cent drop in house prices would make only a temporary dent in long-term housing demand, the study said. By 2018, housing will be as unaffordable as it would have been if the decline had never occurred.
