More mortgages as banks relax criteria

Borrowers who have been frozen out of the mortgage market for many months are beginning to see the landscape thaw, as banks ease criteria and display a renewed appetite for lending.

Several lenders have vowed to provide more loans in coming weeks, and not just to the crème de la crème of borrowers. They are reopening their doors to customers with smaller deposits, who have long been excluded from the housing market.
