Public remains fearful of high inflation

Public predictions of the rate of inflation over the coming year remained at their highest level since 1999 in August, even though inflation dropped below the government’s 2 per cent target in July, a Bank of England survey showed Thursday.

The quarterly survey of attitudes to inflation showed median expectations of 2.7 per cent inflation over the coming year, the same level reported since November 2006.
