FSA steps up mortgage fraud battle

The police constable earned nothing like £68,000, nor did he work part-time as a security consultant. Yet his mortgage application confidently asserted both claims as fact - and left him facing a disciplinary investigation by his own force.

According to the Financial Services Authority's papers on the case, the un-named officerwas a customer of Byron Brown, a South London mortgage broker.
