FTSE higher after data beat forecasts

London equities rose on Tuesday, helped by stronger economic data than forecast and a strong run from eastern European miners after Kazakhstan devalued its currency.

There were double-digit gains for Aviva, the UK’s largest insurer, after it maintained its outlook for dividend payments and eased investor worries about its capital position after reporting an 11 per cent rise in annual life and pension sales of £34.58bn, ahead of consensus forecasts.
