US retailers worry about subprime impact

US retailers are increasingly concerned about the effect of Wall Street’s credit squeeze on customers’ spending, according to a survey of 140 chief financial officers.

Asked by the consultants BDO Seidman what they thought would have the biggest impact on their business, 25 per cent said the weak housing market, 19 per cent said high interest rates and 15 per cent cited the subprime mortgage crisis.
