Another ugly week for the beautiful game

The Football Association could be forgiven for feeling as battered as Gordon Brown at the end of another ugly week for the beautiful game.

This week saw the arrest and subsequent release on bail of Harry Redknapp, the Portsmouth Football Club manager, together with four other senior figures in the game, on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and false accounting. But this is just one of many problems exposing flaws in the sport’s governing body.
