Soaring fuel costs to force airlines into $2.3bn loss, predicts air body

Record fuel costs are forecast to push the global airline industry back into loss in 2008 just a year after carriers returned collectively to a net profit for the first time since 2000.

Giovanni Bisignani, director general of the International Air Transport Association, said: "Oil skyrocketing above $130 per barrel has brought us into uncharted territory. Add in the weakening global economy and this is yet another perfect storm."
