Straw’s final push for an elected Lords

Jack Straw, the justice secretary, is to make a final push for an elected House of Lords in the dying days of this parliament, attempting to complete reform tentatively pursued by the Labour government for more than a decade.

Mr Straw will publish later in the year a bill to move to an upper house that is either 80 per cent or 100 per cent elected. He is thought to favour the former option.
