London set to lose 370,000 jobs in two years

London is set to be hit hardest by the recession, potentially shedding 370,000 jobs – almost one in 12 – by the end of 2010, according to analysis undertaken for the Local Government Association.

Big cities outside the capital such as Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester are likely to fare better as their recent growth “has placed them relatively well to cope with the effects of the recession”, the LGA said.
