Gold-rush Britain in third place

The Golden Saturday of Athens four years ago metamorphosed on Sunday into a Golden Weekend in Beijing for Britain’s athletes.

As the 2008 games reached their highest pitch of competitive intensity, British athletes won a further eight medals, four of them gold, to add to the nine medals (four gold) captured on Saturday.
