Partners wary of ‘Buy US’ rules

Canada has voiced cautious optimism that US lawmakers will back away from moves to include protectionist Buy American policies in the ­economic stimulus package now making its way through Congress.

But it is not clear whether such a retreat would apply only to Canada, where many businesses are closely integrated across the border and whose interests are protected by the North American Free Trade Agreement.
