Fed and SEC in accord to share data on big banks

The US Federal Reserve took a step towards consolidating its position as the main financial regulator by forging an agreement that gives it permanent access to information on risk-taking by investment banks.

The Fed, which traditionally has not regulated investment banks, and the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the primary supervisor, said they had entered into a memorandum of understanding to share information about financial services firms of common interest, including big Wall Street banks.
