An independent inquiry into the 2006 Nimrod disaster in which 14 servicemen were killed has blamed the Ministry of Defence and two of Britain’s leading defence companies for a series of “preventable” failures that led to the tragedy.
The review by Charles Haddon-Cave QC, an experienced aviation lawyer, condemned the MoD for prioritising cost-cutting over safety and recommended a drastic overhaul of the military air safety regime.
