Three-way battle to reshape TV economics

A showdown between the big US television networks, their affiliate stations and pay-TV providers is brewing as the once-dominant broadcasters seek to be paid along the same lines as the cable channels that have eaten into their audiences and revenues.

The big four networks and station groups are vying for payments that could amount to $3bn a year by 2012 from cable, satellite and phone companies to carry their local TV signals, according to Morgan Stanley.
