The US economy will start to add new jobs by next spring, Lawrence Summers, Barack Obama’s senior economic adviser, said on Sunday – the first time the White House has predicted the return of jobs growth by April.
Mr Summers’ remarks came in advance of Monday’s White House meeting between Mr Obama and the chief executives of twelve of the largest banks. Mr Obama, who has held such meetings before with little measurable effect, will ask the CEOs to boost lending to small businesses to help kickstart faster employment growth.
