A new Dutch government will invest heavily in improving life for families and the less well-off and will allow asylum seekers to stay in the Netherlands in proposals to be unveiled as early as Monday that suggest a softening of approach by prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende’s fourth administration in five years.
The plans are contained in a draft policy document agreed by Mr Balkenende and Labour and christian party leaders after 72 days of talks following a general election in November.
