Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad on Wednesday pledged that Iran would not retreat from its nuclear ambitions and insisted the west “cannot do a damn thing” about it.

The Iranian president’s defiant comments came a day after the US and European Union warned Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment activities – the most sensitive part of its nuclear programme – or face tougher sanctions against its banks.
