Curtain falls, new stage awaits

Never has there been such a fuss about a bloke moving his office next door. And to the last the process was interminable.

Tony Blair left Downing Street for Buckingham Palace at about 1.18pm. Gordon Brown left the Treasury at 1.45pm. The Queen has been through this procedure a dozen times now – it is normally brisk and businesslike.
