The US private sector shed 522,000 jobs in January, according to a closely watched survey of business employment published on Wednesday.
Separately, the services sector shrank more slowly than expected last month and less sharply than in December. The Institute of Supply Management’s non-manufacturing index rose to 42.9 from 40.1 the month before. Readings below 50 signal contraction.
