Plavix revival boosts Bristol profits

Bristol-Myers Squibb’s third-quarter profits jumped on revived sales of Plavix as doubts surfaced about a potential competitor to the blockbuster blood-thinning treatment.

Two trials of Prasugrel, an experimental drug by rival Eli Lilly, were halted late on Wednesday because of fears related to dosages. The drug is seen as the first potential threat to Plavix, which has had a monopoly.
