Tory MEPs give party leader his first test

David Cameron was last night facing the first test to his leadership of the Conservative party after the issue of Europe again ex-posed internal divisions and earned him a rebuke from centre-right allies on the Continent.

Tory members of the European parliament threatened to disobey his call for them to withdraw from the centre-right European People's party and establish a new eurosceptic grouping with allies from central and eastern Europe.
