Profile: Essar expanding at home and overseas

It might be India but if you take a walk around Essar Steel’s complex in Hazira, north-western India, do not expect to see swarms of labourers standing around open furnaces glowing red with hot steel.

Essar’s modern, hot-briquetted iron plant employs only 250 people and, with its access to India’s abundant iron ore resources, is among the world’s more profitable steel plants
