German conglomerates see power swing back

The heads of some of Germany’s biggest industrial groups believe that the financial crisis could lead to a resurgence for conglomerates, as investors lose their power to press diversified groups to focus on core businesses.

Hakan Samuelsson, chief executive of MAN, the truck and diesel engine group, said the global financial meltdown had consigned this type of investor activism to the past.
