Credit crisis continues to weigh on Asia

Asia Pacific stock markets were broadly lower on Thursday as more effects of the credit crisis on earnings emerged. One of the world’s biggest insurers, American International Group, announced its third quarterly loss in a row on mortgage and derivative writedowns.

Quarterly profits at Chuo Mitsui Trust a Japanese bank, halved and shares tumbled in South Korea as the country’s central bank unexpectedly raised interest rates.
