Retailers’ woes hit real estate investors

When Boscov’s filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this month, it was the latest in a slew of retailers to be pulled under as consumers have reined in their spending.

But as the mid-range Pennsylvania retailer held closing sales at 10 of its 49 stores last week, the little-known company’s woes were a sign of how troubles facing US retailers will also hit investors in the buildings that house them.
