India’s metros: Light at the end of the tunnel for long-suffering commuters

KP Maheshwari is a man on edge. Any day now, his company, Reliance Infrastructure, will hear if its consortium has won the tender for phase two of the long-awaited Mumbai Metro elevated and underground commuter railway project.

The senior vice-president in charge of the group’s metro projects says the consortium is the lone bidder for the Mumbai Metro second phase, to build 32km of rail for Rs110bn ($2bn).
