Mexico closer on tax reform

Proposals to reform Mexico’s business taxes to raise the government’s tax take by the equivalent of 3 per cent of gross domestic product could be pushed through the country’s Congress by the first week of September, according to a leading congressman from the incumbent National Action party.

The proposal, which President Felipe Calderón’s centre-right administration presented to Congress in June, is considered vital for bullet-proofing public finances in the coming years.
