Merger talk propels Safran

French aerospace group Safran jumped to a five-month high on renewed merger speculation.

A report in Les Echos said Denis Ranque, Thales chief executive, was once again pushing for a tie-up with the defence and communications group. Safran surged 16.2 per cent during the week to €14.38 while Thales climbed 3.8 per cent to €42.72.
