Brown in Afghan troops offer

Gordon Brown will on Saturday tell Britain’s Nato allies that the UK is prepared to send up to 800 additional troops to Afghanistan this summer to help guarantee security for Afghan citizens during the country’s elections.

As Nato member states seek to raise a total of 4,000 troops to help with election security, the prime minister is set to make the offer at the summit in Strasbourg.
