Britain lags behind in gas storage boom

As UK gas production slows and concern increases over the cost and security of energy imports, gas storage is attracting corporate interest and investment.

Warehousing gas in depleted fields or in salt caverns allows suppliers to build stocks in summer, when demand is low, and release them when demand and prices are higher.
