Europe seeks to cut reliance on Russia gas supply

Hungary has called for a meeting of seven central and east European energy ministers next week to discuss ways of reducing the region's reliance on Russian natural gas.

The move came as Russian gas exports to Europe were reduced for a second day yesterday as Gazprom, Russia's natural gas monopoly, continued to face record energy demand at home amid the coldest weather since 1979.
