FTSE lower after volatile session

J. Sainsbury dropped to a two-year low after the latest industry data added to fears the food retailer is losing market share to rivals.

Last week, Sainsbury reported disappointing first-quarter sales figures, which raised concerns that price-conscious shoppers were trading down to cheaper rivals. Those worries were backed up by industry data from research group TNS.
