Teenagers’ desire for the latest trainers has helped JD Sports Fashion, the upmarket sportswear chain, to outshine its high street rivals.

JD had previously predicted sales to drop after the festive rush, but on Tuesday issued a surprise trading statement saying sales growth had been sustained during January.
