Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia was in fine form in the final of the women’s 10,000m on Friday night, taking gold and setting a new Olympic record. Ethiopian-born Elvan Abeylegesse who runs for Turkey was second.

Dibaba produced a sub-60 second last lap to better the mark set by her cousin Derartu Tulu in the 2000 Sydney Games with a time of 29mins 54.66sec.
