Workmen took the place of looters in Moldova’s parliament on Thursday as the government and the opposition blamed each other for the violence that followed Sunday’s contested election
In Chisinau’s Soviet-era parliament building, the floors were still blanketed with glass shards that crunched underfoot after the building’s sacking, while offices in higher stories had been gutted by fire, causing damage the government estimates will cost as much as $35m to repair.
