EU warning on new accord with Russia

European Union leaders warned Russia yesterday they would postpone talks on a new long-term partnership deal unless Moscow withdrew its troops in Georgia to positions occupied before last month's fighting.

"As long as the withdrawal of troops to their pre-August 7 positions has not been realised, meetings on a negotiation of the partnership accord will be postponed," a communiqué from the leaders said.
