Bharti shares jump as MTN merger called off

Bharti Airtel shares jumped as much as 11.6 per cent on Thursday on news that it had called off merger talks with MTN after the two companies failed to secure approval from the South African government for the $23bn transaction.

The stock later retreated to be up 5 per cent at Rs439.90 in afternoon trading.
