Inditex chief tailors its strategy

Inditex of Spain, Europe’s leading clothes retailer, on Wednesday showed that demand for affordable, designer-inspired apparel is holding up better than most consumer segments as it announced virtually flat same-store sales for 2008.

The result contrasts markedly with many competitors, which have reported sharp revenue and profit declines in recent months, and were slightly above consensus forecasts.
