Private schools face balancing act over fees

In wood-panelled studies in a swathe of the UK’s top private schools, headteachers have for months been engaged in anxious contemplation: just how far should they take the finances of recession-hit parents into account in setting fees for the coming year?

So far the data suggest that few professionals have withdrawn their children from private schools. Most would prefer to cut every other item of family expenditure before disrupting their offsprings’ education.
